United For Better Health

Mary McElrath-Jones, regional communications director for UnitedHealthcare is the host of United for Better Health, a half hour program that features health care professionals in and around Westchester County.  The show’s guests will discuss a wide range of health care topics and offer meaningful suggestions and solutions for better health, a better health care experience and better control of your health care costs.

The health care system will continue to evolve during 2017 with new technologies, programs and treatments.  United for Better Health listeners want to better understand their health plan benefits, hear about the latest trends in disease management and understand how workplace wellness programs work or learn more about Medicaid and Medicare plans.  United for Better Health airs every third Wednesday at 10:30am.

Our February guest, Dr. Richard Morel, co-medical director of WESTMED Medical Group shared information about CMS’ Million Hearts initiative.  Million Hearts™ brings together communities, health systems, nonprofit organizations, federal agencies, and private-sector partners from across the country to prevent 1 million heart attacks and strokes by 2017.

The initiative enables health care providers and patients to estimate 10-year and lifetime risks for heart attack or stroke using an atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) calculation which looks at gender, age, blood pressure, cholesterol, smoker vs. non-smoker, race and diabetic tendency to determine risk.
